How long can a break last?

A break from caring for someone can last anything from a few days to several weeks or more. Everyone’s situation is different: you might be delivering 10 hours of care a week, or round-the-clock care for more than 50 hours every week.

So, naturally, the length of a period of respite away from caring can vary significantly from carer to carer. The length of the break might be decided by you, or circumstances like a sudden illness could mean it’s less certain.

Whatever your circumstances, we can help by providing respite care for as long as you need, on a basis that suits you and your loved ones.

What is respite care?

Caring for a loved one can be physically and mentally demanding, and much more than purely handling the day-to-day tasks. Especially when caring for a loved one for long periods at a time, the emotional strain can take its toll.

With respite care, a trusted and trained carer steps in to care for your loved one while you have a break. It means you can have some personal time before returning home, fresh and renewed. Your chosen carer is there to do all the things you normally do. They can live in the home with your loved one or attend on a visiting basis – your tailored plan for care is completely up to you.

We all deserve a break from care due to various reasons and stress is the biggest reason. Respite Care could be the right care for you.

Respite Care from Visiting Care

Benefits for receiving visiting care - Mobility support, helping your loved one move around the house - Administering medication - Ongoing companionship and emotional support - Cooking meals and fetching the food shopping - Housekeeping, including washing and drying clothes - Arranging visits out, for a break or to see family and friends - Feeding and caring for pets if you have any

Some people use our respite service to sample home care for the first time and see whether it suits them. It means they have a taster of how live-in care or visiting care works with us without making a commitment.

Respite Care is the next best thing for you and your carer. You get looked after in your own home and can continue doing everything you usually do while your carer – a family member, friend or neighbor – has time away to relax or catch up with other things knowing that you’re in good hands
